Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV Review

If you are in the market for a new TV at the present time you will probably be looking for two things in particular: high definition and energy efficiency.

If this is true then you should certainly consider the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV in your deliberations.

At 46 inches, it is a good size for a large living room or for a home cinema set-up and the new LED TV backlight technology means that you get a good contrast ratio without sacrificing brightness, making it a practical TV for brightly lit rooms and day-to-day TV viewing (it has a 176 degree viewing angle), as well as those special home cinema evenings.

Full Panel LED Backlight Technology

The Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV boasts a full-panel LED backlight. This is relatively new technology that involves the screen being lit from behind by an array of hundreds of LEDs instead of the traditional fluorescent lamp that is found in ordinary LCD TVs. LEDs are more energy efficient, with Sharp claiming the LC46LE600E is 40% more efficient than an ordinary LCD TV.

They are also better at increasing colour contrast and producing deep blacks in particular. A full panel of LED backlights is generally considered to give superior picture quality than the alternative LED edge-lit screens, although it doesn’t allow the TV to be made quite as thin.
That is not to say that the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV is a huge brute of a TV, as it is in fact a very stylish TV.

X-Gen Panel Saves Energy

Another great new technology at work inside the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV is the X-GEN panel, which has a wider pixel aperture for visually brighter images.
It is clear that this technology is contributing to the energy savings mentioned previously as, if the panel is letting through more brightness from the LEDs, then less power is needed to give a picture with the same brightness.

So whereas the LC46LE600E is capable of being very bright if required, in normal and low-light viewing situations, there will be a considerable energy saving due to this feature.

To further back up its green credentials the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV also has some other eco-features to help you reduce your energy consumption, as well as being entirely mercury free.

The connectivity of the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV is solid. There are three HDMI connections for your HD devices (such as Blu-Ray players and high definition games consoles).
Along with component, composite, PC/VGA, digital card slot, memory card slot and two old-fashioned scart sockets for any standard definition devices you still use.
It also has a digital audio (optical) output supplying Dolby Digital Plus sound for your external audio system (should you have one).

Final Thoughts

Having Full HD 1080p resolution, which is the best resolution currently available, there is certainly nothing to worry about on that front and the Sharp LC46LE600E LED TV is undoubtedly up to date in that respect.

The only thing that the LC46LE600E is lacking is 100Hz technology, so it is perhaps not the best TV if you watch a lot of high speed sports events and want to avoid any trace of motion blur.
If you would like 100Hz technology from a TV in this range of Sharp LED TVs you will need to upgrade to the LE700 Series, for example the LC46LE700E.
